Scott,

That last bit in your link was exactly right about the effectiveness of AD's for 'pain-predominant IBS.' I found that 20 mg nortriptyline significantly reduced the level and frequency of GI tract pain.

A gastroenterologist told me that the two best medications for IBS were amitriptyline and nortriptyline.
