Effexor is a great antidepressant, but I think it's fairly average for anxiety, it's only as good as the SSRI's. If you suffered badly from Paxil withdrawl you will definately go through the same hell withdrawing from Effexor as it is metabolized by the same liver enzyme which a small potion of the population has multiple doses of.

If anxiety is your main problem I would consider bypassing the SSRI's & going directly to a TCA such as Clomipramine or Amitriptyline.
