My great pdoc just told me that the 2 world famous hospitals that perform ECT differ. One will not do ECT if you have thyroid conditions because they claim the treatments are ineffective. The other hospital does not agree with this.
Has anyone with a thyroid condition had success with ECT? Or NO success?
I tend to agree that ECT would not work: probably becuz no other med HAS worked. I have depression only but have been chronically fatigued for 8 months.
Thank God my obgyn agreed to let me start Armour thyroid in Feb. But I do not notice any improvement in energy (what's that????) or mood.
An endocrinologist DID test my thyroid antibodies last week and told me I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis and I should continue with the Armour thyroid. DUH! I thought I was "on top" of things becuz I have had my thyroid levels tested at least 6 times in the past 10 yrs or so. I knew my TSH level could be lower than 2 or 3 and may hold the key to my depression.
I never had my antibodies tested before this!
Anyway, any thoughts on what AD might work better than others for me? Which ADs are most often augmented with thyroid medicines such as Synthroid, Cytomel, or Armour?
Wellbutrin was the worst...Debating whether to try Effexor XR...AGAIN!
Thanks and I hope someone learns from my experience: It's not enough to demand a copy of your lab results if you don't know which levels should be tested: make sure they check those antibodies, gals!
I could be on death's door and all my former drs would still be saying: "But your levels are FINE!"
