Hi,
My 14 year old son is coming off zoloft because of agitation and onto anafranil. He has been diagnosed with OCD/anxiety but a few weeks after hitting a dose of 50mg. of zoloft started having agitation, especially at night.
The psychiatrist said we could just stop the zoloft (50 mg.) and start the anafranil (25 mg.).
When I balked at stopping the zoloft overnight the psychiatrist said that it would not be dangerous to go more slowly coming off the zoloft ( in terms of combining the zoloft and anafranil at these low doses) but suggested we drop the zoloft to 12.5 mg. I dropped him to 25 mg zoloft for 4 days and today to 18.75.
Do you have any suggestions about how slowly to go in stopping the zoloft? And any ways to ease the withdrawal? I am giving him extra fish oil (was giving him 500-1,000 mg a day, now 1,500-2,000). Also should mention that he was on a very low dose of buspar which the psych said to simply stop and we did. My son has a bad headache and is very jittery.
I am just here for him, trying to keep him calm with things he enjoys doing. Any thoughts on how slow to go and ways to ease the transition would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
