Provigil's great--but my insurance won't cover it!

Posted by zefdie on July 12, 2004, at 13:20:35

Ack! I found this medicine to be the most helpful of any I've ever been on (Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Ritalin, and now Effexor--I was taking Strattera with the Effexor until last week but dropped it because I don't think it's helping). On Provigil felt normal for the first time ever: not sleepy, not sluggish, not foggy and unable to focus. My insurance is refusing to cover it (I was on samples before) because its an off-label prescription. What should I do? I'm going to keep challenging the decision, but I doubt anything will come of it.

I'm wary of adrafinil because of the liver issue, and I can't take Adderall because I'm under the impression that Effexor and amphetamines are contraindicated. Also, I can't afford to buy Provigil. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Sleepy, sullen Zefdie
