>Hey! Barbiturates DO relieve stress, but they're not as selective or safe as benzos...and, as the previous poster mentioned, the margin of safety is a big issue (especially with long-term use). Also, most docs are slow to prescribe barbiturates because of the risk of suicide/accidental death, and the fact that most of the barbiturates are now Schedule II-III, while the benzos are Schedule IV; barbs are perceived as outdated, dangerous drugs (to some extent, this is true). BUT I did notice on another post you said you take dexedrine and tried to "level it" with phenobarbital (I do the same thing with my stimulants, only I use benzos). Barbiturates were commonly combined with stimulants back in the day...Dexamyl, for instance, was Dexedrine+Amytal. Desbutal was Dexedrine+Nembutal...so on and so forth. Anyway, if you've given a good number of benzos a whirl and tried Miltown, your doc may go for barbs...but first I'd defnitely try more benzos (I like Klonopin), maybe a betablocker (reduce blood pressure and stress), and an add-on anti-anxiety drug (at least an AD, maybe Neurontin, Gabapentin, or a low-dose anti-psychotic). As for sleep, there's all sorts of meds to try before barbs..the benzo-hypnotics (pro-som, Doral, Halcion, Restoril), Ambien/Sonata, Trazadone...the list goes on and on.
