Buspar is a partial agonist at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors. This means that it causes less agonist activity at these receptors than full agonists such as serotonin. Buspar also acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors. The drug has been around for a while and is considered to have a good safety profile.
