Give it 3-8 weeks... if your side effects haven't diminished by then, there's a good chance they never will.

This is what happens to me on Prozac:

Weeks 2-4: No appetite; lose a few pounds.
Weeks 4-8: Appetite returns to normal...
Weeks 8+: Aww, what the hell! Put some bacon on that thing!

;)

That's when I have to invoke some conscious self-control. Prozac lowers my inhibitions to engaging in earthly pleasures of all sorts. Kind of fun until your pants don't fit anymore and your girlfriend gets irritated at you for flirting with her friends.

Maybe there's something to my last pdoc's BP-II diagnosis... Anyway.

Prozac is the best all-around SSRI I've been on. Give it a fair trial before you give up, but, of course, quit if it's making your life worse.

I remember the Wellbutrin folks on this board counselling me to stick it out through my trial when in fact it was doing some serious psychological damage... Hopefully Prozac at 40mg won't be your Wellbutrin at 300mg, but it very well might be; listen to your brain & body, YMMV, etc.

Best,

-pm
