> Hi,
> My name is Jennifer and I have been thru a living hell the last 2 1/2 years but hopefully things will get better with time. I was put on different psychiatric drugs for about 2 1/2 years and nothing seemed to work. A few months ago my doctor's realized that I was addicted to ativan and they withdrew me. It was way too fast. It took about a month to w/d from and then I came off Geodon about a month later. I am really upset and mad at myself b/c I did no research about what these drugs can do to you and now I have to live with the consequences.

> I have been off of Ativan for almost three months and been off of Geodon for 6 weeks. The number one thing I worry about is Tardive Dyskinesia. What are the chances of me getting it now since I have been off of the drugs? Will I ever develop it a few months or years down the line? I can't calm myself down. My doctor said withdrawal dyskinesia would have already shown up and that I shouldn't worry. I still have muscle twitches and somme headaches but the worst is the anxiety. It has gotten alot better and will get better as time goes on. I should have used other methods of healing instead of drugs. I blame myself and hope nothing happens to me in the mean time. Have these drugs done permanent damge to my brain and body? Please someone explain this to me. I really need support and help to get thru this. Will things get better coming off of these drugs?

>Hi Jennifer,
First, I will answer some of your questions. :)
>The number one thing I worry about is Tardive Dyskinesia. What are the chances of me getting it now since I have been off of the drugs?
>No chance.
>Will I ever develop it a few months or years down the line?
>No.
>My doctor said withdrawal dyskinesia would have already shown up and that I shouldn't worry.
>He is correct. :)
Geodeon is one of the modern AP's which have a very low chance of TD & mostly only while you are taking them. It's the older AP's that are a concern such as Haldol, Thorazine, etc.
As time goes by things will return to normal. Don't be so harsh with yourself, drugs helped you out of a rough spot & they aren't all bad. I take psyche drugs & I am happy that I do because I was very miserable without them.
Cheers,
Panda.
