In reply to Wellbutrin--AGITATION and ANGRY...PLEASE HELP!, posted by yoyoma on June 2, 2004, at 21:01:17
It is possible to find the right medication or combination, with the help of a good psychiatrist. I'm doing pretty well now, but had a terrible time with Wellbutrin -- severe anxiety/agitation (and other really weird side effects) that didn't diminish even after two months of use. My GP prescribed it, but when I went to a psychiatrist he told me that he almost never prescribes WB for patients with anxiety because it's notorious for making this worse.
I'm doing much better on a combination of Klonopin, Lamictal, and Adderall (the latter for ADD). I also take Xanax occasionally, just when I need it. The nice thing is that I have no side effects. But it did take a while (and some unpleasant drug reactions) to find the right mix, which will be different for nearly everyone.
My point is that with all the medications out there, you can get relief; it may just take a while, and a good doctor. If your doctor isn't treating you effectively, then look for a new one if you possibly can. And don't give up on medications because of some bad experiences -- they can really help once you find what's best for you.
Good luck!
