> I Just got the prescription for Effexor XR. Mini background: Suicidal as a teen and early adult. I was very stubborn when it came to meds and thought that I could fix it myself. Spiritually or something, I don't know. I feel somehow defeated learning that this is not going to be the case.
> Wondering if going on meds is a good idea. I'm hearing mixed reviews. I guess Im asking the same as others. Does it work? What should I expect? And is it possible to fix seemingly psychological problems using a chemical antedote? I'm sure there's much I just don't understand about the mechanics of the brain. I just want to feel free of the anxiety/panic/depression.

>I take Effexor, it's great for getting rid of suicidal tendencies, feelings of guilt & worthlessness. The downside is it's short half life makes it difficult to withdraw from, but switching to Prozac during withdrawl can make it easier. You probably won't be withdrawing any time soon so I don't really see it as a major problem. A small percentage of people (less than 10%) are rapid metabolisers of certain drugs & this minority no doubt have enourmous difficulty getting off Effexor, but they would also have similar difficulties with other drugs such as Paxil & Codiene.
