I am from the land down under and the the government subsidies most of the medications.
With me it wasn't so much the expense but rather the time wasted while I was on the med.My curiosity got the better of me.I asked to be put on prozac rather than zoloft to get an indication whether there is something similar or better than zoloft. If prozac doesn't work I am staying with zoloft until I am convinced of better treatment. Please note that lexapro became available in Australia about 4mths ago or there about.Eventhough,I presume you are from the states, your medication is expensive we do not get the large choices you have.
I also have ADHD and been taking the generic dexamphatamine (immediate release) I wish I had more options available to me like dexedrine SR,adderrall XR,wellbrutin and the like. For some reason the govt doesn't subsidies Ritalin and I was on that for a little while and paying aus60 vs aus17 for dex.So I can understand your situation about hesitating to change to find the right medication. From my experience Zoloft at 100mg was ideal.I also took aropax(paxil) before
zoloft it was a bit sedating however I had to stop it because when I took dex it made me feel
numb.It might have to do with drug-drug interaction.
One other thing I actually lost weight with zoloft and put on weight with lexapro.
Its not a problem for me because i exercise and fairly muscular. However I mention it because so many people worry about putting on weight when on SSRI.
I am finish now I go out and round up some kangaroo ha ha haps I am faily new to this message board and I found chemists comments very insightful, keep up the good work.
