Well, of course you could OD on the two drugs, and that in itself is enough to render them "potentially dangerous", but I had experienced such a strange interaction between carisoprodol and Adderall that I actually went back and *repeated* the experiment to see if it really was the particular drug combination that was doing this to me. I'll begin (where else?) at the beginning:
Last Friday I went to my family doctor for something to help me quit smoking again. All my Medicaid prescriptions for the month had been exhausted, so the Rx had to be something cheap -- we went with amantadine (see post below re: my amantadine experience). While there, I figured why not ask the doctor for some Somas to keep around the house... I've been breaking my back working lately and I, as well as my mother and sister, am allergic to over-the-counter analgesics (i.e. salicylates, NSAID's, APAP). Really horrible allergy to have, by the way -- if you ever end up in the E.R. for the tiniest thing and tell them your allergies to non-narcotic analgesics, they immediately flag you as a drug-seeker. That is, until you have a deathly allergic reaction from a single Lodine (etodolac) and *now* the doctors will take you seriously. True story -- it happened to my mom, who is also unfortunate enough to be opioid-intolerant; she's not allergic, but she hallucinates and sweats profusely for hours after taking even 7.5mg codeine, 25mg tramadol, or even 50mg propoxyphene napsylate.
So you can probably see why keeping some muscle relaxers around comes in handy for us. The next day I was doing some painting, much of it on the ceiling, and then had to repair a ceiling fan. Yeah, my neck hurt like hell. So I called it a day around noon, as I'd been working nonstop since 5AM, and decided to take a couple Somas (700mg). Felt much better in 15 minutes or so, but then I remembered I'd forgotten my second dose of Adderall and took 30mg. After that, your guess is as good as mine what happened. I woke up in my bed at the usual time the next morning, about 4:30AM, and wow... complete blackout starting the second I took those Adderall. I looked around for any clues as to what went on, but I found nothing. My mother woke up 30 minutes later and when I asked her about the day before, she said I was acting perfectly normal. Strange...
I'd been bothered by this that day, so this morning I decided to see if these odd amnesia could be reproduced. After some more painting/furniture moving was completed, I took two Somas, waited 15 minutes, and took my Adderall. That was just past noon today (central time), and again I woke up dazed and confused in my bed just an hour ago (4:00PM CST).
What gives??? Back when I was a self-medicator, you could find me any given day of the week taking massive quantities of carisoprodol, alprazolam, and hydrocodone along with alcohol. Before the Prozac I now take subdued my fibromyalgia, at one point I was taking 12-15 Somas daily (and that's *with* the 50mcg/hr Duragesic patch). I tested 700mg carisoprodol w/o Adderall this morning as a "control", but there (as far as I can tell) I have recollection of the entire morning.
I guess I'm just a bit perplexed... does anyone know of any documented cases of anterograde amnesia occurring as a result of the combination of carisoprodol and amphetamine? Or meprobamate and amphetamine? Or even tybamate/carbamate/mebutamate with amphetamine?? Obviously this means that, for one reason or another, I can't take carisoprodol together with amphetamine; I'm just the restless inquisitive type and have to know, "why?"
Thanks all,
~Michael
