Half-life is the time that it takes for a drug to get to half it's concentration in the body after a dose.

Drugs with shorter half-lives are sometimes difficult to discontinue because they leave the body so abruptly that the body feels its absence.
Drugs with longer half lives slowly leave the body slow enough that the body has more time to adjust itself.
