In reply to CLONIDINE + METADATE???? dangerous? ..or helpful?, posted by Vanillintabaktöne on May 12, 2004, at 21:08:04
As far as I know, not dangerous. Avid reading tells me that combining a beta-blocker (antihypertensive) and a stimulant is very common in the treatment of childhood and adult ADD. In fact, I am prescribed a beta-blocker and a stimulant, metoprolol and methylphenidate respectively. The beta-blocker does indeed reduce somatic tension and overall anxiety. I usually have a feeling of being *charged* with nervous energy and mental restlessness - the metoprolol almost eliminates the *charged* nervous feeling.
As far as clonidine being better tolerated than beta-blockers for people with asthma I don't know. I think that people with allergies and/or asthma should be careful with beta-blockers. You should ask your doctor or do some research.
