I've been reading through older posts trying to find women with experiences similar to my own, and you two seem to fit.
I was DXd BP2 about 6 years ago and managed at first with Depakote and Effexor. After a couple of years, I was wavering between feeling flat and depressed (I'd gained weight). I also started having female problems. (I was 41-42 at the time.) By this time, I had a new pdoc, so we switched to Trileptal and Welbutrin. That worked OK for a year or so (at least I started to lose a little weight), but the flat feeling persisted. I was allowed to go on a drug holiday, lost more weight, and was feeling pretty good until last fall, when I woke in the middle of the night one night with severe nausea and anxiety.
I am now back on Trileptal (450mg) and Ativan at bedtime (0.25-0.5mg) to help me sleep. After I got sick last fall, I asked my PCP to send me to an endocrinologist. Found out I have three thyroid nodules and my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is low-normal, which could indicate hyperthyroidism. My symptoms in years past were more like hypothyroidism... depression, somolence, etc.
Question: Have you ever wondered, as you worked from one BP med to the next, if there was something ELSE or MORE going on with you? Do you HAVE anything else going on that's been diagnosed? (Ex: Thyroid, blood sugar, female hormones?) Are you on therapies now that have worked for you for more than a year?
