In reply to Parnate users: is Parnate pro-social drug ?, posted by btnd on May 11, 2004, at 20:00:31
People react differently to drugs, so I can just give you my experience.
Parnate surprised me by the minimal side effects and the fact that it did not do anything to my personality. It did relieve the paralizing quality of my depression (I still get depressed--but I can function) and a lot of my GAD).
I'm a shy person, and I don't handle groups well. That has not changed. Parnate does not "take the edge off" like other AD's can. I can do social things if I want to more easily because I'm not crippled by the depression, but it definitely hasn't made me more social.
The flip side is that emotionally and cognitively my edge is as sharp as ever. That does translate to sensitivity and shyness in my case. You can't have everything, and I have been very satisfied with Parnate's effect. Others might not be.
(I believe the SSRI's are the best for social anxiety)
