indeed, benzos are a curse and a cure. don't now about the lit you cite, but in general, we are talking about regulating chloride flux in gaba a and b subunits. this is a class of proteins called ligand gated ion channels (LGICs) and the GABA one(s) are hit hard by benzos and mildly by others. be wary, you need to evaluate binding affinities, contraindications, and the fact that alprazolam (xanax) is *not* a true 1,4 substituted benzo and has documented antidepressant activity.......many thanks for the heads-up, and best wishes, chemist
