Actually, both protriptyline (Vivactil) and trimipramine (Surmontil) are just available as brand names in the US. They're both made by Odyssey and are relatively expensive (I was on Vivactil last year so am familiar with it). I believe they are not available as generics because of the severe lack of demand--there are not enough prescriptions being written to justify a generic manufacturer getting involved. I believe the situation with Nardil and Parnate is quite analogous.
