In reply to Does anyone still have anxiety after taking lexapr, posted by lexman on April 15, 2004, at 15:19:40
Hi Lexman,
I increased to 20 mgs of Lexapro about 2 weeks ago and haven't had any trouble with my anxiety. Knock on wood. The fact that you're still suffering from anxiety could mean one of three things.
1. Your dose just isn't high enough.
See what your pdoc says. Some people go as high as 40 mgs (there are even some rare cases where people go up to 100 mgs.)
2. You haven't given it long enough.
Lexapro seems to work slowly...I increased to 15 mgs and it was 2 or 3 weeks before I saw any real change. Since increasing to 20 mgs the difference has been subtle but it has really taken the edge off of my anxiety. You might want to give it another week or so. If you're still having anxiety, call your pdoc.
3. Lexapro isn't the med for you.
If this is the case you might try Paxil. (I don't care for the stuff, but some people swear by it.) Benzos are always another option...Xanax, Klonopin, Lorazepam...they're all wonderful for anxiety but can be difficult to stop taking.
Best of luck to you...let us know what you end up doing.
K.
