I now look back on these periods as "just Me' and sometimes it was probably sheer reckless abandon. For example- if I did'nt like the location of my apartment or color of carpeting-I would seek out a better apt. with just the right qualities etc and move - I know my landlords must have thought I was totally nuts -but usually I did really enjoy the cahnge and regret did'nt follow.I also used to accumulate stuff -high end stereo equipment-big screen TV's neat , new and nifty little gadgets etc-then when I got very depressed, I would realize I did not care and would end up selling all my "stuff" or taking it back to the store-- so yes It is good to be concerned for the wellfare of your friend but he/she has to recognize that they have a potential problem-before they will get help-
Also if this person is bi-polar or seems like they do- some times people don't realize that they are sick or may have a particular emotional problem. Its' what you would call lack of insight, and of course some people just "don't want treatment" and usually they end up getting treatment if they are indeed manic or hypo-manic then they crash and go to the terminal opposite of mania which is of course depression! Hope that helps!!
