i quit effexor, and it was NOT pretty. i was also taking lithium, risperdal, klonopin, and trazodone. it was mostly my fault for stopping cold turkey, but i think withdrawal would have been painful either way. the meds weren't working for me, so i just decided to stop taking them one day. within one day, i had a really bad headache and body aches, like i had the flu. the next day, the physical symptoms got worse, and i became an emotional trainwreck. i hardly ever cry, but after stopping effexor, just about anything set me off. i became fixated on suicide, and i was more depressed than i've ever been in my life. then, a week or so later, i became really really happy and outgoing and social, and i had a good time for about ten days. then i crashed again and could barely get out of bed to go to class. i ended up in the hospital for awhile after a suicide attempt.

i'm doing much better now on different drugs. my ADs are zoloft and wellbutrin, and i'm on a handful of other meds. i didn't gain weight on effexor, so i can't comment on losing weight after quitting, although now that i think about it, i did lose a lot of weight after discontinuing my meds. withdrawal completely took away my appetite.

hope this helps.
