In reply to Has Wellbutrin XL added to SSRI helped ANYONE??, posted by Joy on March 19, 2004, at 12:38:33
> Mypdoc added 150 mgs Wellbutrin XL to my Prozac to try to improve my depression, though Prozac certainly helps. I took my first dose yesterday. I did not sleep well last night even though I took my normal .5 Xanax. I keep reading about side effects from this med. It doen't seem to help many people added to their antidepressant. My pdoc said I could either go up higher from 40 mgs Prozac or add just add Wellbutrin XL and stay at 40 mgs . Maybe I should just raise my Prozac dose? Any opinions out there??? Thanks
> JoyI'm not a doctor and am not actually on an SSRI.
I take 300mg of Effexor XR, and it works for me.
I tried adding Wellbutrin XL for sexual side effects from the Effexor - titrated up to 450mg of Wellbutrin while still taking 300mg Effexor XR. Wellbutrin XL did NOTHING for me - could not tell that I was taking it - no bad side effects, but no benefit. I quit the Wellbutrin cold turkey after 6 weeks (doc said it was OK to do this). NO withdrawal.
A note on Xanax: Xanax will probably stop working as a sleep aid if you take it regularly. Ask your doc for 0.5mg of Klonopin instead - remember that Klonopin can take 2 hours to start working. It can be a very good drug for anxiety. Many folks take 0.5mg of Klonopin 2 or 3 times a day for many years without developing a tolerance.
Keep a little Xanax around for emergencies such as panic attacks.
