That "hissing" noise is tinnitus or ringing in the ears. It's caused by damage to the small sensory hairs in the coclea of the inner ear and is somewhat normal, generally getting worse with age. I believe that the AD's are intensifying this effect artificially, and that the effect is not permanent, unlike *real* tinnitus.

Some of the AD's seem to intensify this effect. My tinnitus has been getting worse as a rule (I'm 47), but when I first started Effexor it became much worse. The good news is that this, like most of the side effects I've experienced with Effexor XR have moderated or gone away completely with time...

> I have started hearing a hissing noise in back of my head. Sometimes it is very strong and at other times hardly there, but I do hear it daily. I am on Wellbutrin XL300mg, Lexapro 20mg, Neurontin 800mg twice a day, and Lamictal 100 mg tiwce a day. Could any of these meds be a cause of the noise? I am seeing an ENT soon but wondered if anybody had any ideas. Thanks
