In reply to DOES PROZAC HELP EFFEXOR WITHDRAWAL????, posted by leegirl on March 9, 2004, at 6:07:51
> Hi All,
> I need some help. I have successfully tapered down from 150 mg of Effexor daily, to just 37.5 mg every other day. It has been a total nightmare of withdrawal symtoms that I thought would eventually make me jump off of a cliff...it was that bad! Now, that I'm seemingly almost "off" Effexor, I still can't seem to stop that damn 37.5 dose. When I miss it or am late, the horror show starts up at one: tremors, brain zaps, agitation, paranoia, blurred vision, etc. I was previously on Prozac for 5 years with pretty good results and low side effects. My psych switched me to Effexor because it was a new and seemed to promise even better results than other SSRIs (the psychiatric equivilent of "keeping up with the Jones's", I guess). I've been reading lately, about folks using Prozac to wean off Effexor. Yesterday I had a particularly bad withdrawal attack, and out of desperation, took a 20 mg capsule of Prozac....within 20 minutes, I was fine! Talk about blowing me over with a feather! I hadn't felt so normal in over 12 months. Is there anyone out there currently using Prozac to wean from Effexor? I could really use some help as far as dosage and what to expect......Wish me luck!

>I think it's nearly standard to use Prozac, but people only find this out after they go through hell & troll around the internet for answers. Next time you start to get withdrawl symptoms see what half a prozac tablet does.
Good Luck!
