Never tried other benzos - but I used to crush Klonopin to powder, and put it under my tongue. It has a minty taste, and dissolves quickly. The benefit: the onset is faster - sublingually: 5-10 mins, normally: 30-40 mins. Effectiveness is the same.
If you're looking for a faster on-set with Ativan - I suggest you give it a try, although you might not like the taste (never tried it, but heard that Ativan and Xanax have HORRIBLE taste when used sublingually/crushed.)
Just my 2 cents.
