In reply to Anyone try Straterra+Provigil (at SAME time)?, posted by utopizen on March 4, 2004, at 15:46:13
> Sorry for ranting, but justg curious if anyone besides PsychoSage has tried this... I have sleepiness+ADD, and my sleep doc wants the combo on me for both. I've failed Provigil at 400mg, but my sleep doc says that he's had patients fail Provigil and succeed when combining it with Straterra (plus his BiPAP, of course-- he's a pulmnologist, and I have ADD+narcolepsy+borderline case of sleep apnea)

I've tried both separately and found both quite sedating, the Provigil intolerably so; although, this is an extremely bizarre reaction. The sedation with Strattera, though, is pretty common. I found desipramine to be relatively effective for my ADD symptoms and activating rather than sedating, with less severe side effects than Strattera.I've also tried Vivactil (protriptyline) and found this to be a very effective stimulant and quite good for ADD also. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it to anyone who is male due to the severe anticholinergic effects I suffered while on it, particularly prostate and erectile issues. I have no obstructive apnea but do have some snoring problems and found I slept quite well on the Vivactil. This has been studied for sleep disorders for decades and apparently has some type of marginal effectiveness on sleep apnea, and it definitely reduces snoring.
Have you tried a real stimulant such as Ritalin or an amphetamine? This would seem to be indicated for narcolepsy + ADD.
