Open letter to Wyeth: Effexor Withdrawal

Posted by leegirl on March 3, 2004, at 9:35:24

I don’t expect any response to this letter other than an obligatory promise to “look into the matter”, but I need to say it, and you folks at Wyeth need to start listening to your consumers. Effexor XR is not the life saving SSRI that you make it out to be, nor are the withdrawal symptoms moderate and as innocuous as your literature states. I find it funny that with the amount of horror stories connected with your drug, that you would still have the unmitigated gall to refute what people are trying to tell you. I am living proof of the terrible withdrawal pattern produced by Effexor XR. I have tapered according to my own physician’s direction and as suggested by your own literature. I won’t bore you with the effects that I KNOW you are aware of which occur during withdrawal. In fact I’m sure you’ve seen and heard the words: brain shivers, memory loss, blurred vision, acute anxiety, vertigo, body shocks, joint pain, heart palpitations and even more, on a daily basis. You can ignore, deny, and claim innocence all you want, but the truth is your product has ruined a multitude of lives with the HELL your drug has caused, and I am one of those people. You should start caring more about what your product has wrought on the average consumer, than on which half-truths you can tell your stock holders to keep the money rolling in.
