In reply to Depakote increasing anxiety?? Or Lex?, posted by lepus on March 1, 2004, at 0:51:53
I don't have medical knowledge of this, but I'm wondering if it's the Lexapro. I have been on Lex for over a year now, and recently went through a horrible bout with anxiety and agitation. I have been diagnosed as BPII by a few different docs, but was never able to tolerate a mood stabilizer.
After this horrible agitation bout, I went to a new pdoc who also diagnosed me as BPII and encouraged me to try Lithium again (when I first tried it I was post-partum so it could be different this time.) He, along with my therapist and several articles I have read, said that SSRIs can CAUSE agitation in people with BP. I have been suffering from depression and agitation for a long time now, and treat the agitation wtih Klonapin when needed. But it got out of control recently, and I believe it was stress that triggered it. I am thinking Lexapro was the culprit, coupled with my BP diagnosis.
Sorry if I'm not of more help. I would be interested in other insights ...
Hope you are feeling better soon.

> I just recently went up to 1500mgs of Depakote ER from 1000mgs. Since then I have been noticing more anxiety and more depression. The problem is I am also a female and PMSing. I am also on Lexapro 10mg. I am having difficulty knowing if my increase in anxiety is from the Depakote increase, the Lex kicking in further (been on 10mgs about a month) or PMS.

> Can anyone think of why my anxiety has increased so much?? It is making things really unbearable. My depression has been horrible lately too. I just don't know to wait it out or if I need to call my doctor. I hate calling because I feel like a whinger.
