Has anyone ever tried to take Saw Palmetto to fix this? I read before that it is nearly as effective as the leading prescription (Flomax), and one of the side effects of Flomax is priapism. I don't want that, but anything that has something to do with an erection as a side effect would be a great benifit to anyone on Strattera.

I have read that is a well known side effect of it. Where have you read about the connection between NE-reuptake and prostate problems ? I'm asking because I developed a prostatis after a short trial of Wellbutrin six months ago and since then I have always wondered if there was a connection. Thanks in advance

Sorry for the delay, I was out for the weekend.

Quote (From http://www.mc.uky.edu/pharmacology/instruction/pha824ar/PHA824ar.html):

Tamsulosin has a similar action and is also used to treat BPH. Tamsulosin is an example of a drug that is selective for one of the subtypes of the alpha1-adrenergic receptors. This ligand selectively blocks the alpha1A-receptor. The alpha1A-receptor is involved in regulating the smooth muscle tone associated with the prostate. Therefore, tamsulosin selectively antagonizes the receptor subtype involved in regulating prostate function. Tamsulosin is less likely than the prazosin analogs to cause hypotension.

Alpha a-1 receptors are stimulated by norepinepherine. NARI's increase the level of NE, so there is more around to activate the receptor. There is a class of drugs for BPH that agonize the alpha a-1 receptor, and they reduce prostate swelling.

Thats odd that you say it gave you impotence. I heard the exact opposite (Better sex drive and a cure for impotence). How long were you taking it for and at what dose?
