Um, your pharmacist didn't tell you that you likely won't sleep at that dose because she wanted to let you know you'd be staying awake for the next month. It's her polite way of saying, "Your doc's an idiot for not prescribing this together with Ambien, because 99% of the side effects will come out if you don't sleep for the night after taking it."
I took Xyrem too, and the pharmacist told me the same thing. You will, without a doubt, live in agnozing hell if you have a pre-existing history of insomnia and begin Xyrem without Ambien to augment it with.
Ambien was tested per the FDA's requirements for approval of Xyrem-- Xyrem+Ambien had zero interactions.
If you don't combine Xyrem and Ambien for the first few months, you will live in hell. Trust me. I've been there, and quit Xyrem after a few months. You will hate your life. It will be the worst time of your life. All other times in your life will pale in comparison to this. It will ruin everything in your life.
Not sleeping on Xyrem at night is like not sleeping for two weeks. It's the most dangerous thing you can do to your body. I have had my experience with all nighters. But it wasn't until having trouble falling asleep on Xyrem when I realized how black my eye bags can get without sleeping on the stuff.
In other words, this ain't a replacement to Xyrem unless your doc is planning to up you to 9g/night, and even so, that takes 3 months to get up to. And don't even think of not fasting 4 hours prior to taking it.
I have insomnia. But I was taking it for my narcolepsy.
If you think this is some replacement for Ambien, then why do you think that most patients take Ambien along with it? Your doc doesn't have a clue. See a new doc. You do not want to experience what I experienced.
Ambien doesn't cause you to wet your bed like a geriatric patient at night. Vomit without knowing it until your roommates tell you two weeks after the fact, "Why do you vomit in the middle of the night all the time?" And don't forget sweating so much you need botox injections in your armpits that cost $1650 for the sweating. Or the AM anxiety. Or the blood pressure elevation. I got all of these side effects.
Your pharmacist told you you won't sleep for a reason. It's the closest thing she can say to "your doctor is retarded."
