SOS anti-psychotics?

Posted by delna on February 14, 2004, at 2:14:04

Hello
Is it possible to take an antipsychotic to tide over a brief delusional period.
I am bipolar II and on many meds and am usually fine.
I have suffered from a delusional case of body dismorphic disorder most of my life and these meds have banished this condition.
However during PMT my condition generally deteriotes and sometimes i re-experience this delusonal BDD. I dont need an antipsychotic all the time as the BDD rarely happens but when it does it is totally disabling because despite my knowing its in my mind- when it happens i actually see my face morphing.
so i was wondering if one can take an antipsychotic for just a brief period to tide over a difficult few days.
i wanted t know before i take this to my pdoc as he is a tad medication happy and would probably have me on an antipsychotic fulltime- which i dont want or need.
thanks so much
