I'm taking Effexor XR 225 mg. I developed parosmia in the spring while on Lexapro. I find that parosmia is listed as an infrequent side-effect of Effexor, not Lexapro. Of course, when this happened I was on my first month of Lexapro, since the Effexor (was at 275) makes my BP rise. I had a sinus infection too.
Here's my question: I was off Effexor for a month, stepped that down while stepping up Lexapro. I stepped down Lexapro and was on nothing for 1-2 weeks. Was that enough time to be sure ALL effects of either drug were out of my system? I tried Wellbutrin (didn't work), and am now back on Effexor and the parosmia has stayed through all of this, and it's driving me nuts and I want my normal sense of smell+taste back!
Did I suffer from the sinus infection (get them frequently) infecting my smell nerves like the ENT says with zero hope of recovery, or is it possible that it was all anti-depressant side effects one way or another? Or is this all just too much into the "we haven't really figured that out yet" part of neuroscience?
Do anti-depressants have any _permanent_ effects on brain chemistry? Any studies?
