I think the tachycardia was due to desipramine's direct effect on the heart in addition to its stimulating effect. I used to take 40mg of dextroamphetamine/day and didn't get such a high pulse! If I took a beta blocker, would I still be able to exercise normally? I think I'm going to try Wellbutrin once more given that I'm on a mood stabilizer unlike when I tried it in the past, but if that doesn't work, it's either desipramine or an MAOI, so I suppose I won't have much of a choice about the beta blocker.
