In reply to risperdal withdrawl, posted by andyAI on January 29, 2004, at 9:58:31
Antipsychotics can be powerful mood stabalizers for many people, even in low doses. It is fully possible that you can experience hypomania on withdrawl of 3mg of Risperdal.
Think of it this way. Risperdal blocks certain dopamine receptors. Kind of like an anti-cocaine effect. When you abruptly withdrawl, those previously blocked receptors suddenyl get a surge of dopamine, which can give you a real boost.
I find that when I am wired and a little bit hypomanic, I can calm down with only 0.25 mg of Risperdal.
Explain your idea to the doctor, and how the reintroducion of the medication brings sudden relief of symptoms.
Best of Luck
