Erik,
I don't know about Celexa, because I've never taken it, but i would say that if you either can't sleep because you need sedation (like me, a lifelong insomniac who can only sleep with nortriptyline) or the Celexa is giving you terrible insomnia, PLUS it doesn't seem to be working at even high dosages (80 mg/day is a high dose), then it doesn't make sense to keep raising the dose unless you see signs already that the drug might help you. That's just my opinion. how long have you been on the Celexa?
And yes, definitely, insomnia and poor sleep can bee a side effect of all the SSRI's. Sometimes it is necessary to take another drug, like trazodone, for sleep. But I don't think it makes sense to try another drug to combat an SSRI side effect unless there is a reason to think the SSRI could benefit you. again, just my opinion.
You're definitely doing the right thing by looking for an experienced psychiatrist. You need someone who's familiar with imipramine and also the newer drugs. best of luck,
z
