Hey, I'd appreciate some feedback on potential treatments for chronic depression (for which I've tried almost every medication available minus maois which I may try this summer when i'm done with classes). In particular, I am considering revisiting two medications; effexor or strattera. Below are the reasons for revisiting each:
1) Straterra 20mg/40mg: Experienced brief relief first week (on 20mg), but benefit began to wane around second week. After increasing to 40 mg, side effects (including impotence, insomnia, dizziness, etc.) worsened, no additional benefit was obtained, and trial was discontinued.
2) Effexor XR 225mg: Worked my way up until 225mg at which no benefit was obtained and insomnia led to discontinuation. Since taking effexor, I have switched pdocs and new one is much more liberal in dealing with side effects (i.e. prescribing meds for sleep). Also, close family member has experienced some relief from chronic depression at 300mg.Any feedback as to which med I should revisit is greatly appreciated, and in particular I would like to know if
a) Anyone has experienced significant relief from their depression on Effexor XR at doses only above 225mg?
b) Anyone taking strattera for depression who experienced significant relief after 3 weeks (or experienced a waning of benefit early on only to reexperience success in successive weeks).I realize I am an infrequent poster here, but I greatly admire those individuals who have achieved success and still stick around as well as fellow depression sufferers with enough strength to offer encouragement.
Thanx in advance.
