Happy New year WSJ,
Although I'm no longer in the MAOI club, here's what i experienced with nardil and then with parnate. This is so anecdotal, but maybe it will help in some way:
-provigil: not great. I took 200 mg, once or twice per day. Didn't always keep me awake, and when it did, I often was awake physically but too mentally tired to be productive. But, this drug has been better for others, probably a good place for you to start.
-ginseng: I took between 200-400mg per day. I thought it was better than provigil, but still not great.
-coffee- This is the one that works. I'm speaking now from Nardil, because coffee with parnate tended to give me headaches. Also, parnate somehow caused me to lose my taste for coffee (a similar thing happened with nardil and alcohol). Anyway, at one point I was drinking up to 7 cups of coffee a day, but it worked -kept me awake and productive.
-back when i was on wellbutrin (plus another SSRI depending on the month), I took extended release ritalin. It worked for a few weeks, but I built up a tolerance and became irritable.
good luck,
-cg
