hi
my new doc now thinks that I am not GAD/depression as I've thought (and pdocs I've worked with have thought) for the past 8 years. I am currently on effexor XR 225mg, seroquel 50mg and synthroid 100mg plus Attivan 0.5 PRN. When I brought up concerns about sleep patterns, agitation, difficulty "coming down" when I get worked up/angry/upset about something, mult projects at once, spending sprees etc. pdoc said it sounds more like BP2 than GAD/depression...that the 2 conditions are often confused/difficult to distinguish. Anyway, after holidays when I see him in a couple weeks we plan to change my meds. He said Lamictal is drug of choice for bp2 and it will be first thing we try along with effexor. Eventually will decrease Effexor dose. Predicted end med combo (assuming no ill effects from Lamictal..slightest sign of rash we'll d/c it)...Lamictal alone or w/ low dose of effexor to help with depression. Now, here's the part I don't get. He said that Synthroid is not something he would probably recommend for BP2. He prescribed it to augment Effexor for depression (my thyroid results have always been very low end of normal). ANyone know why? Is synthroid a bad thing for BP2 or just not useful?
Thanks
