I saw a pdoc yesterday in a crisis situation. I just didn't feel like I could handle another day without something more than my Klonopin and xanax. So he talked to me for about an hour and put me on 1000mgs Depakote ER at night and 100mg Seroquel at night with 50mg to be taken in the morning. I took the meds last night and ended up in the ER. I had gone to bed and got up to go to the bathroom and my heart started racing and I felt like I was going to faint. It was like the worst panic attack ever. I felt like I was having trouble breathing, etc. So I called 911, got the ambulance ride to hospital where they said I was fine but the dosages I was given were too high for me obviously. The doc there said to only take 25mg of Seroquel at night with 500 of the Depakote and then take the same thing in the morning.
First, were the dosages I was given to start out on ridiculously high? Is my pdoc a quack? He is supposed to be pretty highly respected. Secondly, can I take Depakote ER twice a day? I thought it was a one day dosing type drug. I am not sure where to go from here with the Depakote ER. I'm not sure I trust the doctor in the ER to know the drug well enough. I think I might just take 500mg at night until I see my pdoc again on the 5th,(if I should even see him again).
I am so lost and feeling so hopeless. I was so happy to get in to see this pdoc on such short notice because I had planned to go to the hospital and he saved me from that for a few hours anyway until I took what he prescribed me. Was he wrong to start me on such high dosages and what do I do now with the Depakote? The pdoc is now on vacation and I am not sure I can reach him.
God, I hate this.
