You certainly have had to deal with a lot. Your husband is lucky to have such support.
I don't know anything about using Welbutrin after a seizure, but your husband seems to have responded so well to it that you should make sure that it really is no longer an option. Maybe you should get a second opinion. Ask the doctor if adding an antiseizure med like lamictal might make it safer to take the Welbutrin.
Lamictal probably won't cause any offensive side effects. You just need to increase the dosage slowly and stop if you see any signs of a rash.
I currently take Parnate (an MAOI) and it is similar to Welbutrin in having few side effects. I don't know if this drug would be an option for your husband, though.
Make sure that your husband's thyroid problems are understood and treated. Thyroid dysfunction can cause depressive symptoms.
