Adding Celexa to Effexor

Posted by Jeffrey on December 19, 2003, at 12:48:08

Hi everyone,

I would apppreciate anyones thoughts on adding Celexa to boost the effect of the Effexor I am taking.

I have been taking Effexor for 4 months for anxiety with obsessive thoughts and a general physical uneasiness that is persistent unless i am sufficiently distracted. The Effexor at 225 mg and 150 mg has provided some relief but not complete relief. I found no better relief at 225 than 150 and moved up to 300 mg of the effexor for a few days and found no increased benefit. I am taking clonazapam .5 twice daily or as needed to help deal with the residual anxious feelings.

During past episodes of anxiety 75 mg Effexor by itself and 150 mg Zoloft by itself (2 episodes) have worked to eliminate my anxiety and no clonazepam or other benzos were needed.

In an effort to boost the effect from effexor, I tried 30 mg of Remeron this week for 3 days and found it to be disorienting and quite potent. I felt in a daze and had vivid dreams. I was spaced out but the resisdual anxiety feelings were resolved but replaced with a disorienting and uncomfortable feeling. I discontinued the Remeron.

My Dr. proposes adding 10 mg and moving to 20 mg of Celexa and seeing how I feel. He hopes it may increase the effect of the effexor or will gradually remove me from the effexor and use Celexa.

Has anyone had success with this strategy? I would apprecaite any and all comments and suggestions that may benefit my recovery.

Best wishes to everyone.
