Remeron-Effexor combo?

Posted by Jeffrey on December 7, 2003, at 4:41:54

Hi everyone,

I suffer from obsessive thoughts and corresponding anxiety and mild depression.

I am currently taking 225 mg effexor and about 1 mg day of clonazpam and have tried 1 mg xanax a day as well, when not taking the clonazpam. I have been on these meds for 4 months at these doses.

During previous episodes of similar anxiety and depression I was able to feel "like myself" and achieve full remission without prolonged use of xanax or clonazpan and just the SSRI or Effexor at a much lower dose.

During this episode, I have been unable to stop the clonazapam as I still have anxiety symptoms despite the partial beneficial response from the Effexor. As well, I still have depressive symptoms fairly frequently.

My pdoc suggested augmenting the effexor with 30 mg of remeron. I am tired as it is but will do whatever is necessary to relieve this lingering anxiety.

Does this strategy make sense?

Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated from those who have had ruminitave thoughts about low risk health concerns or other issues and have found a successful remedy or who have experience or thoughts about the Effexor-Remeron combo.

Best wishes to all.
