In reply to Desipramine advise ( a good night's sleep) wanted, posted by CraigD on December 3, 2003, at 13:40:05
I was on desipramine for over 5 years. However, I was taking it to enhance prozac's effectiveness. I know how you feel about the vivid dreams. After a couple weeks, they seemed to be less intense. I don't remember the exact dosage, but it was the max because my pdoc was having me get blood tests. The tests showed high amounts of desipramine (surprise, surprise), but since it was working to enhance prozac's effectiveness, my pdoc let me continue until I decided to try something else as the desipramine-prozac combo increased my appetite and I gained over 20lbs, constantly sweating and very activating. The additional positive effect of desipramine was it helped reduce my chronic low back pain over the 5 years. Currently, I am back to prozac, remeron and lamictal. I have been on A/Ds over 12 years for unipolar depression (no mania). I am now depression free after lamictal was added almost 3 months. Hope this was helpful. Good luck.
