The conversion is swift, but you must also consider that the formation of dopamine is not equivalent conceptually to the release of dopamine into a synapse.

Many people "feel" the effect of tyrosine within 1-2 hours, and it persists through the day. Tyrosine is also a key component of thyroid hormones, and other things, so you can't just think dopamine when you're thinking of its effects.
