Huge weight loss, no appetite on Lex and Effexor

Posted by Leo BoStar on December 3, 2003, at 11:49:01

I've been on Lexapro (20mg/day) and Effexor (112.5 mg/day) since August. My appetite gradually diminished until October, when I was reduced to eating nothing but 2 cans of Ensure (High-Protein variety) and a few bananas and apples for roughage. I'm just not interested in eating any more. In fact, I'm not interested in anything at all. Weight dropped from 212 lbs in August to 160 yesterday morning. What the hell? Is this the meds, or have I suddenly become anorexic for some reason? Saw my MD two weeks (and 10 lbs) ago and he said that 170 was a good weight for me. He'll check up on me again next week, but if things keep going the way they're going, I'll be down to 150 by then. Anyone else experience this sort of appetite loss on these meds?

PS: I actually don't feel that bad. The Ensure seems to be keeping all the vital nutrients at the right level, and the fruit certainly keeps the old bowels moving. So, once again: what the hell?

Happy Holidays to all of all denominations,
Leo
