In reply to LAMICTAL MONOTHERAPY 4 BP II ?? RANT WARNING, posted by femlite on December 1, 2003, at 11:31:11
Lamictal as mono therapy for BP11 is considered a good idea especially when depression is your overriding problem. I also had this problem and diagnosis and was on Lamictal for 4 months with wonderful results. Unfortunately, it pooped out on me.My daughter on the other hand , has been on it for over a year, and it has been handling her depression great, but her mania has been pushing thru....so she is going to look into adding Topamax...I on the other hand am on Topamax, as mono therapy, and it seems to be working slowly, but surely, for me on my cycling and somewhat on my depression.Once I have a handle on the Topo SE's etc I will probably add some Lamictal...Both of us tried the traditional mood stabilizers (Lithium, Depakote ) but didn't like them, side effects especially weight gain!!I understand your frustration with your doctor.....it can be hard to deal with....
