How does one discern rapid cycling from ADD?

Posted by NoMotic on November 26, 2003, at 5:51:16

I'm just curious about this, since I seem go in cycles where I feel quite good, for some reason or another, for like a week, then eventually there's periods where I feel really really bad for 4 days or so. In between, there's more periods of stability. Yet, I still have periods throughout every day where I feel a little moody or tired on good days and I still feel good for a little on days when I have bad days. But yet, overall, I go through periods of good times, and periods of bad times. I suspect this is normal (aka not bipolar), since the fluctuations aren't huge as a whole, but I keep it in the back of my head just as something to ponder. To me, it's more just symptoms of ADD / depressive symptoms, but how would one differentiate between that and like rapid cycling bipolar II? Is it just the response to mood stabilizers vs. stimulants? I've read that some people get mistakenly diagnosed for one then realise they are actually the other.
