Posted last week that my pdoc gave me some seroquel samples for anxiety. I didn't take any because I dreaded the sedation s/e. Long story short, anxiety increased over the week and along with it some depression. Fought it off as long as I could, but it started to get that quality of taking on a life of its own. Called my pdoc. He upped my topamax to 300mg a day, told me to take 25mg of seroquel before bed (I was getting only 5 hrs or less sleep a night) and 12.5mg in the am.) I also take 300mg EffexorXR. I am a slowly recovering alcoholic as well. Pdoc can't give me any benzos for obvious reasons.
The seroquel is very sedating for the first hour or so after I take it. Night time is no problem. It is the daytime. I almost fell asleep standing up at work. That's no joke. I feel dizzy sometimes. After the sedation wears off, the anxiousness does feel much lessened.
My question: does that sedation go away as your body gets acccustomed to the med?? If not, does anyone have any tricks of the trade to help with it? Coffee? I used to take Geodon at one time and I took caffeine tablets. That drug was one heck of a knock out even the next morning, but I was on 80mg of the stuff. My pdoc told me that this is a very teeny dose of seroquel. I know that. Since it helps so far the few times I have taken it, I'd like to continue but without the risk of passing out at work. Any ideas??
Helen.
