Hello,
I'm hoping someone on the board might be able to offer me some advice or a referral. I am a 19 y/o male pharmacy student with a long term history of severe depression, social phobia, GAD, ADHD (primarily inattentive).After many drug trials (fluoxetine, venlafaxine, tranylcypromine, nortriptyline, sertraline), I achieved a two year remission on Remeron.
I am now experiencing a relapse of my depression. Fatigue and lack of motivation are significantly interfering with my ability to work.
I have read many accounts on the use of modafinil (Provigil) for both depressive and attentional symptoms. However, this medication is pretty much unknown in Canada, although it is available by the tradename Alertec. None of the many psychiatrists I have seen are familiar with its use or even the drug itself.
I am currently seeing a pdoc on a consult basis who may be willing to prescribe it, however, she is concerned about a synergistic reaction with the Dexedrine I am taking (20mg spansule + 5mg IR in the morning). She has various concerns about liability and adverse effects.
I would be very appreciative if anyone could share their experiences with modafinil, particularly those who have combined it with methylphenidate, dexamphetamine or Adderall. I would also appreciate any names/numbers of the psychiatrists who prescribed this combination that I could give to my psychiatrist so she could look into it further.
Current meds:
Remeron 30mg QHS
Dexedrine (20mg SA + 5mg IR) QAM
Clonazepam 1.5mg BID
Alprazolam 0.5mg TID (short term treatment for depression)
Celexa 20mg QAM (increasing to 40mg over the next few days).I would really appreciate any help people can provide.
